This design isn’t about fashion, it’s about survival in the cold. I grew up in the freezing winters of Canada, and one thing I learned early on is that you really don’t want even 1 cm of skin uncovered… otherwise, you will freeze. That’s why I created La Cagoulélé: a balaclava that’s made to truly keep you warm. It covers your neck (the most important part in my opinion!) and you can wear it with a beanie over it, as a hood on its own, or even slip it under your helmet when you’re snowboarding, skiing, or doing any outdoor winter activity. However you style it, this design is here to wrap you up and keep you cozy on those icy winter days. And why Cagoulélé, because «Cagoule» is the word in french and the first one I made was for my friend Lélé 🧡

YARN:

For this project I used a mix of leftover yarn, but mostly Merino 120 from Lang Yarns, about 260 meters in total. 220 Superwash Merino Wool from Cascade Yarns is also a great option or the Heavy Merino from Knitting for Olives. Any worsted / medium weight yarn will work, just make sure it’s warm and comfortable!
