I Prefer Knitting Cotton Than Crocheting Cotton: Here’s Why!

i love working with cotton yarn, but if I had to choose between knitting cotton and crocheting cotton, I’d pick knitting.

Cotton can be beautiful to crochet with, but let’s be honest: it can be hard on your hands. It doesn’t have much stretch, so crochet can feel stiff and resistant. After a while, you can feel it in your fingers, wrist, and even your arm. Especially when you’re working with a tighter stitch or a thicker cotton yarn.

With knitting, it feels completely different. The yarn slides easily along the needles, making the whole process feel softer and more fluid. There’s less pulling and fighting with the yarn, which makes cotton much more enjoyable to work with. I still love using cotton for certain crochet projects, you just have to choose the right kind.

My favourite cotton crochet projects: For a structured piece like the Verdicio Bucket Hat, I actually prefer working with wool. The pattern is made with merino wool, which gives the hat structure while still feeling much softer and more comfortable than a traditional cotton crochet bucket hat.

To use cotton in crochet, the Flower Headband is a completely different experience. Cotton creates a more open and airy fabric. Because it isn't as thick or dense as regular cotton crochet, it works up quickly and feels much lighter in your hands.

So, if you love cotton but find yourself getting frustrated with how stiff it feels when crocheting, try knitting it instead.Your wrists might thank you.
